Welcome to day 12 of decluttering to free your home and your mind. This could be a difficult sort out for a lot of people, especially women.
Today we can look at our shoe sort at home in 6 simple steps.
Are there any shoes that we just don't wear anymore? When I sort out my shoes, I immediately place these unloved and unwanted ones outside my front door, to remind me to get rid of them. Either give them away or throw them away.
Do any need repair? Are we not wearing them because they are broken. Solution - get them fixed or get rid of them. My shoe repairer told me that if you don't wear your shoes at least once every six months, the soles can deteriorate beyond repair.
Are there shoes that we have only worn a few times? Do they only match one or two outfits? Do we keep them for good? Should we wear them more often?
Are we wasting money? For example, if a pair of shoes cost $200 and we wear them once, it is an expensive outfit. If we wear the same shoes 20 times, it cost $10 each wear. When purchasing shoes, it can be quite a shock to calculate this out. Is the purchase a wise investment.
Do we really love them? Out styles and tastes change over the years. If they are still wearable, why not sell them or give them to someone who will love them?
The idea isn't to be a minimalist, it is to only have items that we love. The KonMari method of being organised says tidy by category, not location. Do we keep all our shoes together? Could they be sorted out better? If we kept all our exercise gear together (top, pants, bra, shoes, socks), would it be easier to work out, rather than keeping all tops together, all pants together etc
Wow, this is definitely a day to reward yourself with something special after this cleanse . You deserve it!
Please feel free to comment about your shoe declutter, and enjoy the rest of the decluttering series.
Happy Travels!
