Welcome to day 3 of decluttering to free your home and your mind.
Once upon a time, I had three different dinner sets. An everyday one, one for special occasions and one for really special occasions.
One day when my kids were young and at home I was feeling a bit down and decided to serve dinner on the special occasion crockery. After I set the table, my son, then aged ten, asked, "Who is coming for dinner?" I answered, "Nobody, just us." He then replied, "but we don't deserve the good plates unless someone is coming!"
It broke my heart to hear my son say that, but it was my fault for not serving the most important people in my life on the good plates. That changed that day.
How often do you save something "for good". You don't wear something or use something, because we feel we don't deserve it. Well, get out the good stuff and let it become used and loved.
Coffee mugs, do we need all the different mismatched and souvenir mugs? I had one from a real estate agent that was no longer in business. Give away or throw away any cups you don't absolutely love. (Alicia, I still love the Iowa mug you gave me years ago - that stays, it is my favourite).
Coffee cups! I never drink out of a cup, I love a mug, so for me cups have to go.
Saucers. Same as cups, I cannot remember the last time I used a saucer.
Mismatched plates. Unless that is the look you are going for, get rid of them. Matching sets from stores are now cheap. Replace your set or use your good one. I gave my children their favourite plates from childhood. They cherish them now. Better in their houses that in mine.
Cutlery, same as plates.
Unsharpened knives. No comment needed!
Now, go reward yourself with something special after you do this. You deserve it!
Please feel free to comment about your crockery and cutlery cleansing experience on this post, and enjoy the rest of the decluttering series.
Happy Travels!
