Prepare to Travel - A month to declutter - Day Nine - Electronics and Cords

Welcome to day 9 of decluttering to free your home and your mind.

This is another "just in case I ever need it" (JIC) situation. Then the cords multiply.... in a drawer, a box, the garage. Technology speeds ahead yet we saving stuff has passed its expiry date and we don't even use?

Clearing out old storage last year, I found BETA video cassette tapes and I no longer own a machine to play them on! They were donated to a local historical society. That made me laugh, I felt so ancient. Vinyl records have made a bit of a come back, will the VHS tapes?

If they do, I will go out and buy some new, not store the ones that haven't been used for 20 years.

Streaming movies and music is very popular now, do we need to keep all our old movies and CDs etc? What about cassette tapes? I had a few, but again, no machine to play them on. Even my new laptop no longer has a CD drive.

I also had phone chargers for phones I didn't possess. It was for "JIC" my friends came over and needed to charge a phone. Well, that "JIC" way of thinking has so much stuff taking up space for things that I didn't even own.

A quick electronic cord hint. Do you have an area that looks like the picture below? Where you have to follow the cord back to work out which appliance the cord belongs to?

Use those discarded plastic bread clips that keep the bread bag sealed. Write the name of the appliance on the tag and slip it onto the cord. Easy to see what belongs where.

Today's task is to sort out what electronics and cords you no longer need and get rid of them. Imagine a clean space as you do this, a space free of clutter and feel the mental freedom of this cleanse.

Reward yourself with something special after this activity today. You deserve it!

Please feel free to comment about your cord and electronic experiences, and enjoy the rest of the decluttering series.

Happy Travels!
