February 15 has been identified as Singles Awareness Day, or Singles Appreciation Day. With the unfortunate abbreviation of SAD.
In China Singles Day is 11 November each year. It was chosen because the numeral 1 resembles a bare stick, which is Chinese Internet Slang for an unmarried man who does not add 'branches' to the family tree.
National Singles Day is on the 11 March in the United Kingdom and 22 September in the USA. South Korea celebrates on April 14, known as Black Day. Most singles wear black on this day.
Couples have their Valentine's Day. Now we solo people get to have our special day and to indulge ourselves for the amazing, awesome creatures we are.
Whether you congratulate or commiserate singles, this day reminds us that you don't need to be in a relationship to celebrate life. It is a celebration of love, especially the love between friends, family and loving yourself.
There seems to be so many days to celebrate being single. Hurrah! Or, we can each celebrate being single every day.
How many times have you seen or heard someone mess up and others comment, "no wonder they are single!" It is seen as a failing or something amiss with you if you don't have a significant other. I long to hear the words when someone accomplishes something great, "it's because they are single!"
The USA Census Bureau reports that singles are 44.9% of U.S. residents 18 and older. Single people also get heavily penalised when they travel solo (often as much as 100%). Single people often pay more tax that married people. We deserve our own designated day!
Now, I have to think of how to indulge myself on this SAD day.... a bubble bath with a whiskey and candlelight, watching a movie in my most comfortable leisurewear, eating whatever I want??? Sounds like a lot of days of the year to me.😁💖💋🍕🍷
